Barazani is a boutique budget accommodation set in a converted family compound comprising a main house and a staff accommodation annex. We offer five modern rooms comprising shared dormitory rooms and private double rooms. We pride ourselves to have created an accommodation concept combining low prices, great comfort and cultural experience.
Our name Barazani is derived from the Swahili word baraza meaning veranda or balcony and the place marker ni, which, used together, mean “being on the veranda” or a “place on the veranda”. A baraza is an essential part of any Tanzanian house. It is a place to catch a breeze in hot days, sip a drink after work, gather with family and friends or simply watch live go by.
The layout of our property provides our guests with ample opportunity to indulge in that very Tanzanian activity. Barazani features two large verandas facing opposite directions which provide a great leisure space for our guests to chill in hot days, watch a tropical rain downpour on a rainy day from a cozy place or read a book when you are not out and about exploring what Moshi and the Kilimanjaro region have to offer .
Whether you are looking for a place to prepare for or relax after the “Kili” climb, want to spend a couple of days exploring the bustling and diverse town of Moshi and its beautiful surroundings, or if you are in Tanzania on long term mission, at Barazani you will find a comfortable place to relax with all the amenities and the creature comforts that you are used to from home.
About our neighbourhood
We are located in the Rau/Ushirika area of Moshi, next to the Ushirika park. A simple walk around the neighbourhood is a cultural experience of its own. Women in traditional kanga clothes going around their daily routines, churchgoers dressed to their heels for Sunday service children in school uniforms returning home from nearby schools. The Ushirika stadium which hosts a number of sport and cultural events, Uhuru museum with its exhibits of local chagga people traditions, people greeting you in the street with respectful “shikamoo” , all that against the background of the magnificent Mount Kilimanjaro looming on clear days over the entire area. These are all experiences which you will be able to sample during a simple walk around the neighbourhood before you venture further afield.
